I’m finally starting to get some things finished! This is the first really realistic drawing I've done since Wolf Profile in 2001. A young snake eagle gryphon looks noble for his picture (when don’t gryphons look noble?). I’m aware that the composition is mind numbingly boring. I wanted a simple, clear, and straightforward composition with a “no questions asked” focal point. This was intended to be a practice piece for realism and texture, but turned out nice enough that I wanted to refine it and post it here. Mechanical pencil on sketchbook paper, 6 ¾ by 5 ½ inches. I really should use the nicer art supplies I have leftover from school, but I always fall back on the old materials I’m more comfortable with. I really like mechanical pencils.
Eagle eyeballed from a juvenile black-breasted snake eagle photo by Peter Steyn (posted with permission), clouds referenced from one of my own photos, and ears referenced from my imagination.
It's so cute, yet so noble at the same time! You did a wonderful job with realism, this looks like a drawing from a science textbook, ya know? And the placement of the ears is perfect... wow, awesome. :} How did you get the clouds to look so soft with mechanical pencil?! Did you smudge n' erase?
Beautiful job! I think it looks very realistic, so mission accomplished? The feathers are amazingly done... def. could imagine seeing this in an animal book, with this being a "profile" picture of the breed.
Beautiful detail on the feathers! And power to the mechanical pencils! No evil sharpeners...

I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
